Gone... Aloft

$15.00

Gone ... aloft joins Amy & Adams’ 4 previous albums in the celebration of the musical journey that rarely repeats itself or rests for long in the same place; theirs and yours.  From the Country/Blues/Grassified amble of Gold In Colorado, to the silken intimacy of the whispered Bossa Nova Gone Not Forgotten and the romantic ballad My Sweetest Taste, through the icy jazz combo attack of So Sick Of The Winter, the steel drum Caribbean Buffet I Don’t Want To Work For The Audio King No More, to the soaring orchestral finale Aloft, the writing, the arrangements, the vocals, and the instrumental performances on Gone ... aloft are simply stunning.

These 13 wonderful original songs were brought to life by the same band of exceptionally gifted artists Amy & Adams used on their 4th CD Dancing Through Time:  sister Mary Adams, as always, on vocals and harmonica, drummer Ryan Hurn & bassist Rich Brown (one of Branson, MO’s top tier rhythm sections), fiddler, mandolinist, and guitarist extraordinaire (oft Grand Ole Opry sideman) Tim Crouch, and the impeccable Steve Kuether on 7’ grand piano, Hammond B3, accordion, and synth keys.

Recorded at Steve’s Panther Creek studio in the Arkansas Ozarks, Gone ... aloft sounds great on your iPod, or in your car. If you’re lucky enough to own a fine audio or home theater system you can have Amy & Adams & Band right in your own living room.

Gone ... aloft was a fulfilling musical journey for us.  We hope it will be for you too.

1 Gold In Colorado Read

Do wrong, do right it don’t bother me tonight,
There’s a full moon outside, and no rain.
I’ve wasted time in this old town too long,
Feel like broken glass in some old windowpane.

But there’s gold, they say, in Colorado.  There’s plenty a man can do.
Yes, there’s gold, they say, out in Colorado and I’m going there to get me some too.

Seems all my dreams are like some wasted scenes,
Torn from a script then thrown away.
So I’m leaving this town.  God, I’m tired of feeling down.
Yes, I’m leaving for Denver today.

‘Cause there’s gold, they say, in Colorado.  There’s plenty a man can do.
Yes, there’s gold, they say, out in Colorado and I’m going there to get me some too.

Want to go to the mountains, find the other side of this crowd.
I’ll build my home in the mountains where I can touch the clouds.

How the sun it shines on the mountaintops,
It’s a beauty words can’t describe.
And the summer skies, they’re as blue as the eyes,
Of the woman who’s waiting there for me.

And there’s gold, she says, in Colorado.  There’s plenty a man can do.
Yes, there’s gold, she says, out in Colorado and I’m going there to get me some too.

Yes, there’s gold, they say, in Colorado.  There’s plenty a man can do.
Yes, there’s gold, they say, out in Colorado and I’m going there to get me some too.

Now I’m going there to get me some, too.

Yes, I’m going there to get me, going there to get me, going there to get me some, too.

2 I Think It's Beautiful Read

Butterfly flutters by, drops to light before my eyes,

Powdery wings of color, so intricate in design.

I think it’s beautiful, thank you I love it!

A gift so beautiful, thank you, I love it, thank you God, I love it!

Walking through the Northern air, fragrant pine is everywhere,

Filling me up with Heaven, this must be what it smells like there.

I think it’s beautiful, thank you God, I love it!

A gift so beautiful, thank you, I love it……….

The tiniest feather from a sparrow’s head, the pollen dust on a bee,

The sheer perfection of a spider’s web, these are miracles I have seen.

It’s so amazing…what God…has been creating.

Vibrant sunset changing the look of sky and clouds and land,

It’s like a watercolor painting, evolving from the Master’s hand,

I think it’s so beautiful, thank you, I love it!

A gift so, so beautiful, thank you, I love it, thank you God, I love it!

I love it………….

3 Singing High Read

Singing high in that tree, Robin please, sing with me.

‘Cause this lonely voice is tired and singing low.

And this broken heart is empty just like home.

Leaves of green, sky of blue, my true love wasn’t true.

And it’s dawned on me I’ve just been wasting time.

Robin, can’t you see there’s no one as lonely as I’m.

I’m used to singing; singing in twos.

That’s why I’m singing with you.

Salty tear in my eye, wash me clean help me try

To breathe this springtime breeze into my soul,

And help this empty heart feel whole,

To breathe this springtime breeze into my soul,

And help this broken heart go home.

Singing high in that tree, Robin please, sing with me.

4 Now She's Gone Read

It seemed somehow to me I kept her happy.  I guess I didn’t feel her slip away.

Suppose she covered up her tears with laughin’,

And all the times she looked I turned away.

But now I can see, I closed my eyes as she reached for me.

And now she’s gone, now she’s gone.

I see each time I made it through the doorway,

With not the time for the kiss she had for me.

And I still hear myself sayin’ “baby someday,

Just you and I, that’s how it’s gonna’ be.”

But now I can see, I closed my ears as she called to me,

And now she’s gone.  Now she’s gone.

Guitar break:

The pillow where she laid her head lies ruffled.

The imprint of her body’s still on the bed.

The rubber tree she cared for once was healthy,

But like our love, it’s withered now, it’s dead.

So now I can see, I closed my heart to her love for me.

And now she’s gone.  Now she’s gone.

Now she’s gone, now she’s gone.

5 Gone Not Forgotten Read

Gone……..not forgotten, it lives forever on,

Long……...in coming, it’s done but it lingers on.

I didn’t want to come face to face with an empty heartache,

But that’s the way I guess it goes.

Try so hard to put back in place all the pieces left me,

Why must I do it alone?

Gone……..not forgotten, the memory runs deep.

Long….…..in passing, I’ll see you in my sleep.

With every dream I have you’ll be there in the back to haunt me,

Just like a pirate ghost of yore,

Robbing me of the treasures that I once held within me,

And now must try to restore.

Gone…….but not forgotten, oooh…………….

6 So Sick Of The Winter Read

I want to see the blue man paint the skyline blue,

I want to see the sun man let the sun shine through.

So sick of the winter: sleet, ice, and snow.

I want to see the winter pack its bags and go,

And never return, and never return.

The salt in the winter eats big holes in my car,

But if they don’t spread it I can’t drive very far,

And as for the fun times they’re far and few between.

I hunger for springtime and the color green,

And the bluebird’s song, the bluebird’s song. (Hit it, boys)

Solo

So damn all these ice dams and while were at it, damn all the ice,

And damn these high fuel bills and guys who double the price.

They force us to pay up or force us to freeze.

They bring all the poor folk to their knees,

And they still want more, they still want more.

I want to see the blue man paint the skyline blue.

I want to see the sun man let the sun shine through.

So sick of the winter: sleet, ice, and snow.

I‘ll buy it a suitcase help it pack its bags and go and never return,

And never return, ‘cause it just goes on, it just goes on, it just goes on,

It just goes on!!!

7 Are You Running? Read

Are you running through the tall grass, are you chasing with the boys?

Bet there’s lots of dogs to play with, in fields of squeaky-toys.

The boys and girls who wanted pets have finally got their way,

Bet they feed you all the treats you want, and play your favorite games.

Well, I’m sure your bed is softer there, the food out of this world,

And the sun is always shining and the smells there so superb.

I wonder if you’re missing me, as much as I’ve missed you,

But, perhaps you’re right beside me - and I haven’t got a clue.

The day you crossed the “rainbow bridge”, our hearts were sinking low,

Though we knew the time was right for you, so hard to let you go.

When I cross the bridge myself someday, there will be my furry friend,

Who’ll be waiting there, without a care, together once again.

Tails are wagging there, up in the air, together once again!

8 I Don't Want To Work For The Audio King No More Read

The Boss Man, he make a couple million dollars a year.

He says I make too much money he’ll have to cut my pay he fears.

There isn’t much left to whittle away,

I don’t make much though I work all day,

No I don’t want to work for the Audio King no more.

I try to be a good man, I try to raise a family.

I work so many hours, them I rarely get to see.

Still de boss man says I should work much more,

Guess I’ll buy a cot, sleep on de floor.

No I don’t want to work for the Audio King no more.

I don’t want to work like a slave for the master no more.  NO!

I don’t want to live my life from chore to chore, any more!

De time has come to be up and on my way.

Where I’m headed for, you know I really cannot say.

Still I know there’s a God who will guide me where

There are people to love and work to share and

I won’t have to work for the Audio King no more.

No I don’t want to work like a slave for the master no more.  NO!

I don’t want to live my life from chore to chore, anymore!

I don’t want to work for the Audio King no more.

I don’t want to work for the Audio King no more.

I want to stay at home, I want to do my own thing,

I want to go out on de road, I want to play and sing,

And I don’t want to work for the Audio King no more.

No I’m not going to work for the Audio King no more.

No I’m not going to work for the Audio King, King, King no more.

9 My Sweetest Taste Read

Morning: sneaks beneath the window shade,

Casts its bronze light on this precious world we’ve made.

Then the sunlight blinds me until it finally rests on you.

You’re my sweetest taste in life, the sweetest taste a man could ever know,

And I’m so blessed that you’re still here, still a little worried that you might go.

So much more than just my life, so much more than anyone deserves to know.

Now I’m stopping everything just for this moment, gonna’ love and let it glow.

Workday: smiles at thoughts of us at home,

Then I remember how it felt to be alone.

Sudden need to tell you how much I want you, got to stop and call you on the phone.

‘Cause you’re my sweetest taste in life, the sweetest taste a woman could ever know,

And I’m so blessed that you’re still here, still a little worried that you might go.

So much more than just my life, so much more than anyone deserves to know.

Now I’m stopping everything just for this moment, gonna’ love and let you know.

Words always fail, can’t ever tell just what I mean.

But I’ll never stop, so I’ll just have to hope you hear what lies in between…

‘Cause you’re my sweetest taste.

Moonlight:  smiles behind the window shade,

Casting silver on this precious world we’ve made.

In the shadows I can see you and the kiss that waits for me.

It’s my sweetest taste in life, the sweetest taste that I have ever known,

And I’m so blessed that you’re still here, still a little worried that you might go.

So much more than just my life, so much more than anyone deserves to know.

Now I’m stopping everything just for this moment gonna’ love and let it show.

That’s why I’m stopping everything just for this moment, gonna’ love and let it show,

Gonna’ let it show.

10 I Wait, I Wait Read

You, you, you, you…

Waiting for the winter to end (I wait, I wait),

Waiting for the flowers again (I wait, I wait),

Can't stand not knowing where we are going,

It's arctic and bitter, while you consider,

I Wait, I Wait … on you.

Waiting for the ice all to melt (I wait, I wait),

Can't remember the last time I felt (I wait, I wait),

Your arms around me, your warmth surround me.

Thaw out please baby,  I'm frozen in maybe,

I Wait, I Wait … on you.

Bridge:

See my life just slipping away waiting here on you.

I won't breathe 'til I hear you say my wait is through.

Now I've got Mitch Ryder on singing, "…too many fish in the sea"

BUT I JUST WANT YOU!

You, you, you, you…

When I finish writing this song (can't wait, can't wait).

Hope I won't have to wait too long (can't wait, can't wait),

For your arms around me, 'til your warmth surrounds me.

Anticipating…no longer waiting,

I can't wait, I can't wait … for you.

I can't wait, I can't wait … for you.

11 The Ghost Of The Young Soldiers Read

We struggled for the beaches then we crawled into the fire.

Burning bullets tore through our young flesh.

Hell’s horror could not breach us, we ascended to the pyre,

Our battle cry was all that we had left.

Chorus:

We’re the ghost of the young soldiers dead and dying on that day,

Giving life to a world whose hope was lost.

We sought to buy your freedom with the oceans of our blood,

We fought to save our brothers from this cost.

So before you sell your freedom to the ones who would enslave,

Before you chase the rainbow’s pot of gold,

Spend a tear on the lonely ones who perished on the shores,

Listen for their echoes in the cold.

For the sake of unborn daughters, for the sons we’d never have,

We sailed in sheets of linen on the wind.

We plunged into the slaughter like sacrificial calves,

Our ears cindered silent by the din.

Chorus

We bled in arms of comrades, we bled out there alone,

We bled until our hearts had pumped us dry.

Our dreams lay in shatters, they were burst with our bones,

It hurt so bad we couldn’t even cry.

Chorus, Taps

Thousands gather ‘round us to embrace our rows of graves,

With tears they hope to wash away our pain.

But we didn’t fight for medals, and we didn’t die for praise,

We died so none would have to fight again.

Chorus

12 Rise Up Children Of The Light Read

They say they speak for God but this I know.

Their words are hatred, it can’t be so.

By their fruit I’ll know them, I know they lie.

If I listen to them, take their words inside, my heart will die.

So Rise up children of the light.  It’s time for love; not time to fight.

If the beast comes knocking at my, knocking at my door, God make me strong.

You pray to Allah, I call on God.

You kneel towards Mecca, I search the sky.

We both have children born to live and thrive.

Let us reach for heaven, we’ve just got to try or in graves they’ll all lie.

So rise up children of the living God.  It’s time for healing there’s been too much blood.

If the beast comes knocking at my, knocking at my door, God make me strong.

Allah blesses not the murdering hand,

Nor God the bombs that scorch the night.

Been eye for eye, and now we’re going blind.

Take my hand sweet brother, there’s an end in sight if we turn to the light.

So rise up children of the open heart.

It’s time to rise up; time to claim the world.

When the beast comes knocking at our, knocking at our door, God keep us strong.

When the beast comes knocking at our, knocking at our door, God keep us strong.

13 Aloft Read

I’m flying, in the air, the wind and the clouds carry me and are company there.

I’m flying, past all care, and I won’t come down ‘til the wind blows me someone to share.

‘Cause I’ve been bound and heavy far too long,

And way up here I finally found this song,

Now all I need is someone who can sing in harmony.

I’m flying in the air: aloft and alone on my own why should I care?

She’s sailing, far below, the wind in her hair fills her sail and it’s making her go.

She’s sailing, does she know, her wind carries both of us forward whenever it blows?

I hear her sing I know she shares this song,

I pray she’ll just look up before I’m gone,

But prayers are often hushed by winds that tear true love apart.

She’s sailing, does she care, we’re sailing together on sea and up in the air!

 (Solo)

Together that’s the key, my song inside her, her song inside me.

Together we will see, if together’s the way we’re meant to be.

But I can’t seem to get her to look up.

It must be ‘cause the wind below’s too rough,

And if I raise my voice this loud I hope it’s quite enough!!!

Together that’s the key: I see her blue eyes, they finally see me.

Aloft and sailing her & me:  one in the air and one on the sea.

Sailing / One in the air and one on the sea.

Together / One in the air and one on the sea.

One in the air and one on the sea.
